Beuys' project 7000 Oaks began at Documenta 7, 1982 in Kassel Germany. The work in Germany consists of 7000 oaks each paired with a columnar basalt stone. In 1988, under the support of Dia, the project expanded to thirty seven tree+rock pairings in Manhattan New York.
